Up to twelve people will climb aboard a six-wheeled Pinzgauer truck for a rollicking ride through the vineyards with one of our expert wine educators. Visitors will experience first-hand the diverse terroir that divides the vineyard into sixty distinct blocks, from the shallow clay soils of the valley floor where Pinot Noir thrives to the steep volcanic hillsides where Cabernet is king. They’ll learn how the Bundschus meticulously hand-farm for quality and sustainability, as well as hear some of the many colorful stories that come from six generations of life on this farm. At the summit of the vineyard, the group will taste the a selection of four estate wines while enjoying panoramic views of Sonoma Valley, Carneros and San Pablo Bay below. The return trip leads to the barrel cave, where he tour culminates with a tasting of the highly limited Vintage Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. This unforgettable experience offers visitors insights into the unique character of the vineyard, the wines and the people of Gundlach Bundschu, the oldest family-owned winery in California. Once you have stood on the mountain and seen where and how the grapes are grown, you understand why they’ve been here 150 years. $40 per person. Begins at 10 AM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through September, or by appt for groups of 8 or more. www.gunbun.com |
