A year-long project by award-winning photographer Wing Young Huie on display along Highway 12 in The Springs and in exhibition at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.
Last year, SCC Artistic Director Shelly Willis invited Huie to work in the Springs for one month. In that period, he took over 1500 photographs and worked with community partners including members of the VOM Teen Center, Vineyard Workers Services, La Luz Center, and elders of the area to identify appropriate subjects and focus.
The Inside the Springs project will culminate in an installation of 78 black and white photographs ranging in size from 12-inches to 12-feet high in the windows and exterior spaces along the one-mile Hwy 12 corridor of the Springs. Business owners will participate by displaying photos in their windows and help turn Highway 12 into a communal gallery. The exhibit will be visible both to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from September 4 – November 30.
