First Century Live! in association with Sonoma Stage Works presents “Come to the Water,” a unique portrayal of life in Biblical times offered in the new Andrews Hall Theatre. Performing in period clothing with authentic scenes as backdrop, scripture scholar and archeological enthusiast Joan Huguenard zooms her audiences back to the first century, informing and entertaining through her dramatizations of life circa 40 CE. Persons aged ten to 100 of every faith tradition or with a hunger for historical understanding will gain fresh insights from this program based on archaeological discoveries of the past 60 years. Following every performance, presenter Joan Huguenard (also known as Sonoma Sun’s “just joan”) welcomes questions and discussion from the audience. A new special feature before and after the Sonoma shows and during intermissions will be an outdoor “Middle Eastern Marketplace” featuring sales of refreshments and books as well as artifacts purchased in Bethlehem and Jerusalem.
Matinees will be offered at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 20 and Wednesday, September 22 and an evening performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22. Tickets for all performances, at $10 each and $5 for students, may be purchased with cash or checks at Pharmaca, 303 West Napa Street or Readers Books, 130 East Napa Street, both in Sonoma; online at www.brownpapertickets.com or through the First Century Live! box office at 707-939-9999.
