Instructor: Maxwell Mustardo, Artist in Residence
This two day workshop will examine and explain the fundamentals of glaze chemistry to bolster attendees' abilities to understand, create & control their own glazes. Presented in lecture format in concert with physical examples, we will discuss what the elements of a glaze are & how different raw materials function within glaze recipes. This includes discussions of predicting glossiness & matteness, mechanisms of color development, glaze durability, & texture.
Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with specific questions, issues they are experiencing, or desires for their practice. No knowledge of chemistry is required to take this workshop. It is aimed at anyone interested in learning about glazes, whether they have experience making them yet or not!
