Sonoma Kicks Off the Holidays with “Lighting of the Sonoma Plaza” on November 20, 2021 at 5:00 PM

Community event returns as hundreds of thousands of lights brighten the historic wine country center

Sonoma, Calif. – The Lighting of the Sonoma Plaza, a beloved event and the start to the holidays in Sonoma Valley, is this Saturday, November 20 at 5:00 PM.

Held outdoors in the eight-acre Sonoma Plaza the holiday showcase features locals performers, food trucks, wine and beer, hot chocolate and cider and cookies.

This year’s performers include Mexican dance from Grupo Folklórico Quetzalén as well as Broadway Under the Stars previewing songs from their upcoming show, “Broadway Holiday Spectacular.” Rounding out the performers will be a super-lineup of local singers and songwriters.

The highlight of the event – literally – is when the crowd chants in unison to help light the towering palm tree bedecked with brilliant white lights on the historic lawn in front of Sonoma’s city hall. Without the power of the Sonoma community, the tree just won’t light up.

While this is one of the main events in Sonoma Valley, it’s just one of many occurring during the months of November through January. Other happenings include the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon, craft fairs, winery open houses, holiday performances, historic holiday reenactments, a French-style circus and more.
