We welcome Sheba Person-Whitley, Executive Director of the Sonoma County Economic Development Board, for the inaugural edition of our new member program: Big Ideas in a Little Lunch Room.

Big Ideas in a Little Lunch Room features experts on topics of interest to the hospitality and business community.

No boring speeches allowed: this is lunch and conversation and your questions.

About Sheba Person-Whitley:

Sheba Person-Whitley was appointed by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to the position of Executive Director of the Economic Development Board (EDB) in May 2019. 

Prior to the EDB, Sheba served as the Economic Development Manager for the City of Stockton where she led the Economic Development team focusing on business attraction & industry retention efforts, adaptive reuse, program development, equitable economic development and community engagement. 

The EDB is focused on growing a healthy economy by helping businesses in Sonoma County. They provide confidential, no-cost consulting services to businesses seeking to start, relocate, and grow in Sonoma County.

What's New in 2020 - DONE

For our next "What's New" press release we are looking for new business openings, new events, new classes, new renovations, new expansions... you get the idea. For the first "What's New" of the season we always like a look-ahead at the year, so if you are about roll-out a new camping program, or a wine series where the grape grower will take you out to do pruning (hey - it could happen...) or a major anniversary (10 years, 25 years, 50 years, 75 years, 100 years) then let us know.

1) An item you would like to be considered.

2) A photo of the item.

3) A brief description of the item, with a few main selling points. For example, rather than “T-Shirt,”  say “A locally designed, pre-shrunk cotton, short-sleeve I LOVE SONOMA t-shirt.” The more you talk it up, the better we can help you can start selling product!

Lighting of the Historic Sonoma Plaza

On Saturday, November 16 we will be celebrating the annual Lighting of the Plaza with thousands of local residents and visitors as we illuminate the historic downtown with hundreds of thousands of lights and enjoy music, food, cookies, cocoa, cider and even some local libations.

We invite you to join the Sonoma Tourism Improvement District, the City of Sonoma and local businesses like Benziger Winery, The Lodge at Sonoma, Sonoma Market and others and sponsor this amazing event.

The Lighting of the Plaza is the official kick-off to the Holidays in Sonoma Valley as we all count-down and light the towering palm tree that stands over the illuminated Plaza. New this year will be a "Lighted Star Forest" and a "Curtain of Lights" in the north end of the plaza, inviting repeat visitors looking for the perfect photo AND the chance to explore Sonoma's restaurants, shops, tasting rooms and attractions.

Sponsorships start at $500 and include the chance to be a title sponsor - complete with your logo on the official, reusable Sustainable Party Cup. This keepsake will be used for wine and beer sales and is sure to be used for years as we continue our journey to more environmentally friendly city celebrations.
