In wine country, the late summer and early fall are abuzz with so much talk of harvest, they make pumpkin spice season look like child’s play. For generations, the harvest represents the fruits of our labors and is marked in Sonoma Valley with a whole season of celebrations. From the Annual Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival and individual winery celebrations to special restaurant tasting menus and winemaker dinners, the harvest is one of the most highly anticipated times of the year.

And while the harvest is undoubtedly the apex of the wine-growing season, it also serves to highlight the incredible cornucopia of produce the valley showcases in our local markets, farms, pumpkin patches and restaurants. It’s small wonder that Sonoma Valley has long been a hotbed of culinary genius. Author M.F.K. Fisher settled here in the last 20 years of her life at her “Last House” at the Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Bouverie Preserve. In 1956, Chuck Williams, founder of the famed Williams-Sonoma, opened his first store dedicated to French cookware—and the flagship store still stands over half a century later. And today, famous chefs like Alice Waters have built their reputations sourcing produce from the valley. One visit to our local farmer’s markets is proof enough!
